Employment Law Guides

Plain-English guides to Texas employment law, written for employees.

Most people who contact me have never needed an employment lawyer before, and they are trying to answer one question. Does what happened to me count as illegal, or was it just unfair?

These guides are my attempt to answer that honestly, in plain English, before you spend money or miss a deadline. They are long because the honest answer is long. Each one tells you what Texas law does not cover as plainly as what it does, because finding out you do not have a case is worth something, and finding out you do is worth a great deal when the deadlines run this short.

None of this is legal advice, and reading it does not make me your lawyer. It is the information I would want if I were sitting on your side of the desk.

In preparation

More guides are in preparation, covering severance agreements and non-competes, employment discrimination, workplace retaliation, disability discrimination and accommodation, and workplace harassment. Until each one is posted, the practice area pages and the FAQ cover the same ground in shorter form.
